Hello SMS families, and Happy Fall! It was terrific seeing so many of you at Curriculum Night last week–thank you to all the PTA members who helped both at the K-8 and the High School. This week we have our first full week of school, so I hope everyone is well rested. Middle School Parents: High Exposure Field Trip. There are many SMS permission slips and High Exposure waivers still outstanding for theOctober 3rd field trip. Please sign and return the attached permission slip and click on the link here to fill out High Exposure‘s waiver as soon as possible.

AT SMS:
1st-5th grade families: SMS Musical Theatre Drama Club: There are still spots available for the SMS Drama Club. The club meets on Fridays after school with pick-up at 4:15pm at the high school. Please direct all correspondence/questions to Ashley Byler, ashley.byler@gmail.com. Waiver attached.
5th-8th grade families: Running Club with Mr. Fox: There are still spots available: Running Club is back for Fall 2018: Thursdays, from 3-4pm. Eight sessions: 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, and 11/15. Cost: $165 to be paid by check made out to: SMS PTA). Limit 16 students. SMS PARENTS: There are still a few spots left on the SMS parent private Steinway Factory tour (and thank you Andy Arluk, 1st grade parent, for organizing):
Steinway’s piano factory is in Astoria, Queens, and we have arranged with them for SMS families to be able to get a free private tour. They go through the process of how a piano is built on the factory floor.
WHEN: Friday, Sept. 28 from 8:45 am – 12 noon (the tour itself will be about 2 hours, starting at 9:30 am).

All Parents: Wednesday, September 26: District 3 Town Hall followed by CEC Calendar Meeting:
The District 3 Community Education Council Town Hall with Chancellor Carranza is Wed., Sept. 26th at 6:30pm at PS 163 – 163 West 97th Street – (more information is provided below and attached). It is open to all.
CEC3 wants to relay your questions, concerns and issues regarding D3 public schools to Chancellor Carranza and we have attached a public comment card that you can print and fill in and which you can email back to us at cec3.schools.nyc.gov or bring with you to the D3 Town Hall where we will collect it. Please act now so that we can let Chancellor Carranza know your concerns with regard to District 3 public schools.
