MESSAGE FROM THE PTA:
As a fun event to help kick off the new school year, we wanted to take advantage of a uniquely New York offering: Steinway’s piano factory. Steinway’s factory is in Astoria, Queens, and we have arranged for an SMS parent private tour (at no cost). They go through the process of how a piano is built on the factory floor.
Steinway restricts access to 16+ years old, as it is a working factory, and the tours are only on weekday mornings, so unfortunately, students cannot attend. However, we thought it would be a fun experience for parents and others in the community.
We have tentatively arranged for Friday, Sept. 28 from 8:45 am – 12 noon (the tour itself will be about 2 hours, starting at 9:30 am). They can accommodate up to 20 people (if an alternative date may work better, please indicate that, and we can assess for the group what may be best, but no guarantees). If you’d like to join this event, please fill out this form: Steinway piano factory tour sign up Also, please indicate if you’d be interested in having a bus from SMS arranged (we would need to cover the cost of that).
Thanks, and hope you may find this an enjoyable experience! Some additional info:
Sasha Grossman (5th grade), student of Natela Mchedlishvili traveled to Italy this summer and won Premio Assoluto 100/100 (1st prize) in the Nuova Coppa Pianisti International Piano Competition 2018.
