Special Music School Parents Association

As always we are reminded that this school community thrives thanks to the contributions of time, money, energy and ideas from all its members. Already this year, those contributions have made a lot happen, from the fall fundraisers, to the school dance, to the lunch volunteers and morning volunteers, the jazz club, setting up and attending community service concerts, as well as hours of support for the SMS admissions and evaluations process, the concerto competition, the composer’s festival and time and money donations to the Kaufman Center fundraisers. THANKS to you all!

SMS End-of-year Chamber Concerts will be held at Ann Goodman Recital Hall on Tuesday, June 5th at 2:15 PM and on Wednesday, June 6th at 2:15

The 8th annual SMS Concert & Bookfair at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on Broadway and 66th Street will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2007, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM (attached pdf flyer.) This is the time of year our friends and family get to see performances not scheduled in the middle of the work or school day. Here is this year’s Performance Schedule:

Grade 4 10:30- 11:45
Grades 7 & 8 12:00- 1:30

The annual Spring Choral Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd at 1:30 PM in Merkin Hall. Tickets are $7.

End of the year concerts are free and open to the public. All concerts will be in the Ann Goodman Recital Hall on the 2nd Floor. Here is the final Grade Concert Performance Schedule:

As a new initiative in 2006-2007 Music Director Jenny Undercofler has spearheaded a series of workshops designed to assist our families with important practice issues. These workshops, given by Third Street Music Settlement’s Mary Jo Pagano, have thus far been quite successful. The workshop dates are:

Grades K- 2, Monday, February 5, 2007, 5:30- 8:00 PM
Grades 3 & 4, Wednesday March 28, 2007, 9:00 – 11:30 AM
Grades 5- 8, Monday, April 23rd, 2007, 5:00- 7:00 PM

Thanks to the important efforts of volunteers, art teacher Laurie Marcus, and of course the talented SMS children, this year SMS will once again have an Art Show. The Pot Luck Dinner and Art Show will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, beginning at 7:00 PM. It will be held on the 2nd Floor.

This years all school picnic will be held on Wednesday June 6, 2007 (rain date: June 20) in Central Park, just inside the Central Park West entrance at 94th Street. Please join us and bring your friends and family!
